Canggu

Introduction

Fresh, trendy and tropical

Canggu continues to soar in popularity, especially amongst the younger crowd including surfers, yogis and digital nomads who refer to it as “bohemian-chic”. A small town with a huge personality, it is filled with stunning interiors and impressive architecture, artisanal cafes, specialty designer stores, beautiful and contemporary villas, unique beachclubs and fantastic dining for all.

Canggu isn’t nearly as over-developed as Seminyak – there are ricefield views and wide-open, green spaces.  Popular areas in Canggu are Batu Bolong, Batu Mejan, Echo Beach and Berawa, famous for their black sand beaches and amazing waves.

Cultural Landmark

Go exploring

Tanah Lot Temple is one of South Bali’s most important landmarks and one of its holiest sites. It is home to an ancient Hindu temple that sits on a rocky outcrop some distance away from the beach.

At high tide, it is surrounded by treacherous waves. You can explore the base of the temple at low tide but climbing up the steps to the temple itself is reserved for pilgrims. There are shrines in the caves at the base of the rock formation where you can receive blessings from the local Balinese priest if you so wish.

The beauty of Tanah Lot can be witnessed from the main beach, especially during sunset hours when the temple is outlined against the sky’s pink, purple, orange and gold. Don’t miss out on the Kecak Dance that takes place every night. Morning is also a good time to visit with fewer crowds and gives you time to explore the shops nearby.
